Iron Barley's High Hog Ridge
July 23 ·
To all our friends, family and customers. It is with regret to announce that Iron Barley's High Hog Ridge will not be reopening.
As a family we have tried so many different scenarios looking at what the future would be. What if, what if, and the same answer was always:"How do you continue the dream when the biggest part of that dream is longer with us".
With that being said, we are proud to announce that the building has been sold and will be home to a new restaurant, Johnny's Hideout. Stop by and introduce yourself or give them a call the phone number will be the same as before.
We would like to thank you for your support, generosity and especially your friendship.
Sincerely The Iron Barley Family.
Stopped in April 2019, great food, service and prices. I really wanted to try the Spaetzle but they didn't have any for lunch so Tried the lunch buffet so was able to tried a little of everything else. Looking forward to going back

Visited on June 7, 2012. The Cheese appetizer was the bomb along with their own brew. Chili was great. Monte Christo was unique with salt and sweet taste. The toasted barley was money and the Banana Blaster was goo. Had the Prime Rib sandwich to go, and it was great for dinner. Great service and food. 5 Chef hats and stars. Would highly recommend.

This place is awesome. We were lucky to sit outside before it got too hot. The food is amazing and not at all what you would expect. I had the mussells in a wine sauce. The wait staff is wonderful, the music was great, and the atmosphere is just perfect. If you are in St. louis this place is a must

What a great place! We had the schnitzel and it was very good. Ask the waitress for kids items, they have them. The cheese appetizer was awesome! The peanut butter blaster was ok, has peppers in it so it is a little different. Great service - very nice and friendly and good selection of beers.

Simply amazing! My wife and I did not expect what we were treated with. Great hospitality, wonderful service and very reasonable prices for the quantity and Quality of food we received.

Stopped on way back to Twin Cities, got pork chops n smoked salmon, both a bit too smokey. Liked the buttered noodles for the young kids better. Also a bit pricey for us. :-$

Stopped in for a Schnitzel $ Spaetzle. Good selection of microbrews. Food was great. Service good. Desert was peanut butter blaster. Frozen ice cream pie covered with chocolate and berry sauce with large dollop of habanero whipped cream. Liked it enough to buy a t-shirt.

Heard and read about this place from various sources as it was on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. We were on a cross country trip and very much looking forward to eating there. Not in a great part of town but right off the interstate so pretty easy to get to. The food was mediocre to say the most and wayway over priced. They are obviously milking the DDD exposure. For example by daughter had the double dogs "Montecristo" which was highly recommended by the waitress. Two simple dogs split in half on a bun covered each with literally one quarter of a processed cheese slice and then a splatter of jam. This was about 50 cents worth of food for which they charge $8.00. No fries, no chips, nothing.

Never had a bad meal from here. Always interesting specials along with several good menu choices. Save some room for the peanut butter blaster.

This is a cool little restaurant, staff was very friendly, they had live music that night, and I got the seafood paella, which was great. I hope to stop back again for the schnitzel.

Well what can I say about IB ...but...WOW... This place was great. This was the 4th DDD place we hit on our trip, and we were not disappointed once. My fiance' had the Schnitzel & Spaetzle, a house specialty, and he loved it. We talked about it for awhile after we left. The portions were huge, and gently priced, not over the top. The people we had with us also loved the food. The mashed potatoes and gravy were exceptional as was the service. Worth the trip, we will be back in the future.

For me, Yes, this is a must stop. We drove up early for a family reunion last year to eat here. Fantastic. It was so good, be brought the group of 45 at 5:00 pm the next day. No one in the group expressed dessatisfaction. (Believe me, with my family, they would) Check the starters on the board. They have a cheese dish with toritas that is worth the 300 miles we drove alone. Good Stuff!

We saw the DDD episode and planned to stop on our way back from our 2008 August Sturgis SD bike trip. Glad we did. We've been back 3 more times. Have spent 08/09 Thanksgiving long holiday weekend in St Louis just to go to Iron Barley. In 08 we initially stopped for a good meal and left as friends. No one should pass thru StL without a stop @ IB. Tom, Gen and all the crew are super. IB isn't just a restaurant, it's a 'destination'.

Went to Iron Barley last night and had the Schnitzel and the Oak Roasted Pork (split with my wife) and all I can say is that it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The barley and vegetables that were served with the pork was even great. Every time I visit STL in the future I will hit this place up.
