The view is good, but the food is overpriced and greatly overrated

The chowder at Evelyn's is good. The chow mein is similar to "Fall River Style" chow mein that is in nearby Fall River, Massachusetts. The chowder at Flo's in the Island Park section of Portsmouth is good also. Flo's in Portsmouth is closed in the winter. There is a location in Middletown that is open year round. Evelyn's is closed in the off season.

If you want excellent fresh FRIED seafood this is about the best I've had. A bit pricey but no complaints on the taste and quality.

Too much $$$$$ for what you get. Chowda was out of a can and not warm at all. Flo's Clam Shack is way better in Portsmouth or across from the 1st Beach in Newport.

The Chow-Mein noodles and Chow Mein in the Tiverton area are a style indigenous to that area (some call it "Fall River Chow Mein"). They are an acquired taste, and many of us who live there LOVE them. Guy's wife is originally from Rhode Island, so he probably has a greater appreciation for them, since he has no doubt eaten them before.

A drive in in need of a makeover into the resturant described on triple D. Plastic furniture and decent chowder does not make a $41 fried sea food combo (no lobster). Food prices were cheaper in downtown Newport.(yuppie world) Beware whenever you tourist see market price on everything that was on triple D. There are a lot better and cheaper clam stands that are not afraid to print thier price. The chowder was good. I like straight shooters and of course nuttin fancy.

OK, I admit that I saw the episode and thought about the Lobster Chow Mein, but when I got there, I realized that this is a clam bar, and one should not deviate from the obvious. Rhode Island Clam Chowder is an acquired taste, so if you are a Manhattan or New England Chowder fan, you might not like this thinner version. But the fried clams, etc. were great. this is what the place is here for, and what you should stop in for.

Don't waste your time going to this restaurant. I had seen this episode of Diner's and was eager to go and try the Lobster Chow-Mein. It was in my opinion disgusting, it was like no other chow-mein I had ever had before. THe worst part were the chow-mein noodles, they were totally disgusting. My husband had the fishermen's platter which was a whopping $55 and it was all fried except for the lobster. Save your money and go to a less expensive fish shack somewhere else. NOT WORTH THE DRIVE!
