Planned a weekend in duluth with friends and had several triple D spots selected. Stopping at the anchor was a last minute decision and so glad we did. Everything was amazing. We had a sassy little bartender who mad us laugh and everyone loved their food. (Note: if you order anything with cream cheese be prepared - they load it up) Can't wait to stop again. Hopefully we can sit in the bar next time as it is a historical site in itself.

kept missing the anchor when in duluth -- it took a while to convince my wife she wouldn't be traumatized by visiting a dive bar -- but we got there this past weekend. well worth the wait -- the burgers were the juiciest and most flavorful i've had in a long time. I had a reuben burger, with the patty swapped out for the corned beef in a regular reuben, and it was delicious. The place was packed on a sunday night, but we found a spot and our server got to us quickly. prices are way reasonable, too: we had two burgers, split some fries, and two beers (one a huge mug, maybe 40 oz.) for less than $18. we'll be back!

Stopped in during a recent trip to the Duluth area. Service was absolutely terrible. We sat for 20 minutes without anyone coming to talk to us. Finally had to go flag someone down at the bar to take our order. Fries were good, but the burgers were nothing to write home about. Overall, it definitely wasn't worth the trip, but at least it was cheap.

, We go to the Anchor Bar at least once a week. It has great service and food, we have gone there for years and have never ever been disappointed. In fact we were in there today while Bobbie and Jeanine and Dan the cook were working. They were very attentive and met our every need. We sat at the table right outside the kitchen and I watched Dan cooking. I was truly transfixed watching this man. It was truly awesome as I watch him fry fresh hamburgers and fresh french fries.. All done while I was watching him. Amazing!!!!! Jeanine and Bobbie stopped and carried on a conversation with us. Truly awesome people. I would highly recommend the Anchor to anyone. In all the years we have gone there we have never had a bad experience. Anyone who has a complaint doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. Guess they don't realize the great service and great cook they have there. It is absolutely amazing place to go and eat and have a drink or two. Great prices also. It would cost a lot more to eat at a fast food place with their doggone frozen patties and frozen french fries and crappy atmosphere. At the anchor they remember you and have great personalities to go along with the place. Love it there and highly recommend it. Thanks for the great day today Jeanine, Bobbie, and Dan. Great food and great visit. Jan & Fred

Went to Anchor Bar 10/20/12. We entered the bar. Place was busy. Bartender and waitress looked right at us and looked a way. They never offered us a spot or if there was a waiting list. We saw an open spot a the bar. We sat down and waited 15 mins until somebody asked us what we wanted to drink and eat. It took 45 to an hour to receive our food. While we were waiting for our food, my bf and i were drinking. My bf finished his beer, they didn't ask to refill it. He went the entire meal without any thing to drink. The sad part was they knew his mug was empty. The bartender and the waitresses looked at it walked past it at least 3 to 4 times. The bartender was constantly on his phone. Nobody was willing to help.
Service here is absolutely bad. Burgers were good. I will probably never go back. It is probably the worst bar I have ever been to.

Horrible Service. Very good burgers. Fries are BAD!

Drove up 7 hours from Milwaukee to eat at The Anchor and arrived 1/2 hour after opening, ordered my burger and fries and got my soda. One hour later still nothing, no eye contact from the dim witted waitress, no"would you like a refill?" or "your burger will be up in a minute".... nothing! When I did confront the dim wit and mentioned that I needed to leave and no burger had been delivered as of yet, she just said "go and you don't have to pay for the soda either!" I did pay and did leave VERY disappointed! All of the other waitresses were humping, mine was just an idiot. Unless I am up there on business again I doubt I'd ever go back.

This place is amazingly cheap, especially on weeknights with beer specials. Don't expect fancy flavors and complicated dishes. They make good, simple burgers and fries.

One of best most unique and cheapest burgers I have ever had. Stopped by on my MN DDD Roadtrip (yes I know it's in WI, but is so close to MN) in May. Had the olive burger. Can't wait to stop in for some more. Can't believe with a place like this in their town McDonalds can even stay opened.

--The burger sucked big time....But if a person liked dried out meat and fries that are tasting like last weeks grease then it would be just great. The service was terrible, saw the help only twice, once to take the order and once with the food and bill. Was told to check the place out and I did. Wouldn't  go there  for the food ,maybe just the beer.

I went to college in Duluth, and this is exactly as advertised: great, greasy burgers and fries for a great price at a one-of-a-kind place.  You owe it to yourself to stop in.

"Isn't a DDD joint "Jane H has no idea what a good burger tastes like, or what the 3rd D stands for. This place difinitely has what it takes.

The burgers were excellent and the prices were extremely low. The place was packed but we were invited by two off-duty waittresses to sit with them and get the low down on the place. Oh, and you can't help but notice all the Lake Superior memorabilia, it's everywhere.

This is a great site, which often lists DDD places months before they show up on the air.  Anchor Bar was featured in dv1105, A Little Twisted, in late January 2011.  Looks like quite a joint!

From: jane h Subject: Wisconsin Message Body: Hi Rick! Me again. Your website is fantastic! Hope it's OK with you when I give you an update. Anchor Bar in Superior, WI was researched but didn't make the cut - it isn't a DDD joint.
