Chip who is the owner of the Diner got back to me and although we didn't agree on his policies, it was agreed that he gets to run his business his way and I get to have my opinions on my experience. This is my attempt to let sleeping dogs keep sleeping and understand that in the times we are in today, be thankful for the freedom we have to do what we want. In other parts of the world, they don't get to do that so in the grand scheme of things we have it pretty good here so no need to keep blowing up over spilled milk (coffee ;) as they say)

WTF? Our first BAD experience for Jenn and I. We got up early to visit the place for breakfast and as we are prone to do and we brought in our Starbuck Coffee.WRONG MOVE!!! We got KICKED OUT ... we brought them in and the owner told us that we had to buy some OJ or Milk in order to stay with the Starbucks coffee.I said we'll do better ... we'll order up some good ole' breakfast but the gal said we have to leave.I was dumbfounded ... Really, I asked? She said yep, you have to buy a drink before you can order food so we left. They lost our business and some TripleD credibility over what I see as a silly rule.I can understand if we brought in a bag of McDonalds and started eating it at the counter but we brought in coffee...I'M SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED that they did that.On a much more SUNNY NOTE, we went to Aldo's Harbor where they greeted us with open arms and also allowed our coffee's to eat with us :)

I don't like to write negative reviews as I know every restaurant tries hard to make a living. That being said, we stayed overnight in Santa Cruz just so we could to go to Aldo's for dinner and the Santa Cruz Diner for breakfast the next morning. We arrived too late in the day for mid-week at Aldo's so we went to the Santa Cruz Diner for dinner and again for breakfast. The meals were mediocre, at best; no better than any coffee shop and definitely a disappointment for a DDD highlight. With so many DDD options in the bay area, we won't be giving the Santa Cruz Diner a third chance.

So-so. Too many things on the menu to do any one thing especially well. The service was nice, I not overly prompt. There was nothing about the place that would prompt me to return, even if I lived in Santa Cruz.

The food was really good and the waitress we had was very nice and friendly. I had the teriyaki chicken sandwich which was amazing and my b/f had the pho with the egg rolls. They were also really good!!

This place serves up an awesome variety of american classics at great portions and a reasonable cost. You know any place that's crowded with locals on a regular basis must be good.

Don't believe the hype! I was recently there with friends, and we were looking forward to a great seafood meal, considering we were mere blocks from the ocean. What we got was disgusting frozen fish fillets and fries!!!! So disappointing, considering the recommendation from triple d!
