First stop in Portland on our Epic Pacific Northwest Road Trip. Had high hopes for this one. I had two of the old fashioned dogs and was not all that impressed I have to say. Our local meat shop has much better old fashioned dogs, just they don't grill them for you and let you eat them in the shop. I did however enjoy the experience very much. Don't get me wrong, I still liked the dogs and rank them as some of the best I've had. And I did love the whole atmosphere of the place. Order from the guy grilling on the sidewalk, grab a local craft beer inside, sit in the middle of the market and enjoy. That was all great, and I'd go back again if I get back to Portland just for that.

I have eaten at Ottos at least 100 times. I used to work nearby and would stop in for lunch. I was floored when it was on DDD, because it has been a favorite of mine for years. I never really thought of it as a "restaurant" so I was happy to see it recognized. I highly recommend it if you want a great dog or brat. Just be warned that it's not a sit down restaurant, more like a hot dog stand, just with the best damn dogs you ever had!

Otto's is a great and reasonable place for a great lunch. We had chicken sausage, pork sausage, pepperoni sticks, jerky, and even just the regular hot dogs were delicious. For the spicy-hearted, you gotta try the jalapeno mustard. All the people working that day were extremely helpful, and it made our trip to Portland all the more special.

We stopped here for lunch in November 2010. We ordered a couple of different sausages from the cart out front. A hot dog and a bratwurst. These dogs were good. This is a very neat place and there were a lot of people stopping by to get their lunch and pick up some fresh sandwiches and cold cuts. I wish I lived closer to Portland. I would recommend it to anyone that is nearby.

What's better than sitting outside in the sunshine with a hot dog and a micro brew?!?!?!?!?! They have a whole store and I'll have to go back to try other things. It was BUSY and the service was very nice. Check it out - you'll be glad you do.
