A friend and I took the 2+ hour trip to Big Jim's yesterday to check it out after seeing all the great reviews on this site. The. food. was. incredible. I had the eggplant parmagiana and my friend had the veal parmagiana. HUGE portions...I have enough to eat for 3 days, at least! The wait staff was super friendly. Reasonable prices! As already mentioned, the restaurant environment itself is not impressive. We came around close to 5 p.m. and when we walked into the dining room, everyone stopped what they were doing, stopped talking, and stared. Awkward!! It's dark, dingy, and from where I was seated I couldn't help but notice that the check out 'podium' looked as though it had had a nasty encounter with an angry dog...it looked like it had been gnawed on. Really rough. When we got our receipts, there was a note saying they have a new location somewhere else in Pittsburgh. The food was so good, I'd love to try the new location. Don't think I'll be back to the Saline St. site.

This place did not disappoint. My girlfriend sat down to watch TV after driving home from the beach last summer. We saw this segment, programmed the GPS and drove down immediately afterward. I had the veal parm sandwich, she had the meatball parm, and we both had the wedding soup. All were incredible! The portions are enormous. The food was unbelieveable. It certainly is a dive, but being a lifelong Western PA resident, that was a plus. It reminds me of the bar in the Deer Hunter (and that is a compliment!) We have since returned one other time and can't wait for our next visit.

Service was good and friendly. Zucchini appetizer was ok, don't need to get it again. My husband and I split the lasagna because of what others wrote and it was STILL HUGE!!! Enjoyed the sauce and the flavor was awesome. Meatballs were good also. Def. a dive but super nice staff. Get yor GPS out to find it. Will take friends back again.

We ate at Big Jim's on a Friday night, December 2, 2011, got there around 6:30 p.m. Big Jim's is non-smoking but we chose the dining room anyway. We didn't have to wait to be seated, although we ended up close to the door in the dining room so every time it opened, we got the cold air. We had the fried eggplant appetizer, which was very good, and meals included stuffed shells, lasagna, spaghetti with meatballs, and veal parm dinner. Everything was very good and the portions were HUGE, everyone needed boxes to take home. From what we could see of others' meals, everything looked good. The place is definitely a dive, dated, dim dining room, but it's very good local fare.

My daughter and I were here on Sunday, March 6, 2011. The service was painfullly slow. The 'famous' veal parm sandwich bread was average...not like great Italian bread. The highlight was the fried zucchini and fried eggplant appetizers with marinara on the side. It took forever to be served, but they were the freshest, best tasting, filling, and delicious versions we had ever had. We travel a lot and always visit "Guy's" Triple D joints. Overall, I wouldn't go back here.

We stopped by at lunch time Monday after Christmas. The overall cleanliness of Big Jims was less than good. The table was sticky and the bathroom was not good :( . On the flip side the food was incredible. We had the wedding soup and maybe because it was cold out side, it really hit the spot. Not very spicy but overall very enjoyable. I had the Reuben and it was the best I have ever had very very good. Andrea had the chicken sandwich and really loved it. Overall really enjoyed the experience and would love to try it again. Thanks Guy.

My husband and I were on a road trip to ohio and stopped at Big Jim's. I got spaghetti with meatballs and my husband got the open face roast beef. The meatballs and meat sauce were some of the best I have ever had, including my own homemade ones. I thought the pasta was over cooked, but the amazing sauce and meatballs made everything fine. I personally did not love the gravy on the roast beef, but the beef itself and the fries were delicious. My husband LOVED his meal though. Can't wait to go back again!

Visiting Pittsburgh for work conference. Ate at Big Jim's tonight, had the giant sized Veal Parmagana sandwich on half a loaf of Italian bread with a side of Marinara... OMG!!! The best snadwich I have had in a long, long time. The couple behind me drove down from Canada just to eat at Big Jim's... They agree, the food is awesome.. Beware, the food comes in one size only... X-Large portions!!! Awesome place to eat!!!!

The old saying "don't judge a book by its cover" certainly fits this place. Not a fancy place but wow the food was amazing. Outstanding food with large portions. Well worth the trip. Interestingly enough we met several other "foodies" who had traveled from several states away to try Big Jims. Everyone was very satisfied with what they had. Guy hit the nail on the head with this one.

Really a dive! But a dive with wonderful food! Not handicapt accessible that I saw...you basically are in a bar...but the food was AWESOME! We met other Triple D fans while we were there and had a terrific time. I would highly recommend it...but you'll need your GPS to find it.

Holy mother of big portions but still reasonably priced. Everything we ate was fantastic - Veal Parm sammich was massive + tasty; fries, burgers, chicken was all very good. It's a must visit!!

Big Jim's was AWSOME! you'll have to try the calzone, it takes two people to eat one Calzone end they both better be real hungry! We came from Marietta Ohio to eat at the Pittsburg area stops we'd seen on triple D.

Kind of an "out of the way" location, but worth it to make the stop. We were only passing through, but my wife and I enjoyed the cozy, friendly atmosphere and the delicious food. I had the eggplant parmesan, my wife had an Italian sausage hogie. Easily the best eggplant parmesan I've ever had. Bring your appetite, you'll need it to finish their enormous portions. I hope I have the opportunity to travel through Pittsburgh again one day.
